Huh?

Here are some frequently asked questions….

1. So, what is all this about then?
Are you fed up with normal recipes and their pesky, text based formats? Do you want to see some life breathed in to your lunchbox inspiration, some spectacle in your spatchcock chicken? Recipe Look is here to save you supper time. It’s packed with interesting food ideas and they’re all drawn out by hand, so you can easily see what you have to do. What’s more, you have the chance to make your own ‘recipe look’ and send it in to us. We’ll simply make it the right size and stick it on the site; you’ll be famous in minutes!

2. How do I draw my recipe, are there any rules?
There are no rules and part of the fun is seeing how different people draw recipes. Some people are really precise and draw lots of complicated stages, other people like to be quicker and leave more to your imagination. Ultimately, the idea is to try and communicate through a visual image so you should always have in your mind how someone will interpret what you have drawn.

3. But I can’t draw?
Don’t be silly, everyone can draw. I find drawing hands difficult because I can never remember where the thumb goes, so sometimes I hold in my hand what I am drawing (say a hand holding a wooden spoon) and then draw this while I hold it. It’s much easier to draw something that is in front of you. Sometimes I trace things from magazines. This isn’t cheating! Try not to use photographs though, there are lots of those sites already out there.

4. How shall I send my recipe to you?
Please send images in a large size in a format like JPG or TIFF. This is normally what your digital camera or scanner will make anyhow.

5. How large is large?
Try to make it about A4 size and at 300 dpi.

6. Why so big?
We like big images so we can scale it to look right on the blog.

7. What is 300 dpi?
It means 300 dots per inch and refers to the number of pixels squished in to each square inch of screen size. Don’t worry about this too much, just don’t make the image from your scanner or camera any smaller than normal.

8. Where do I send my recipe?
Please email recipes to tom at recipelook dot co dot uk
